Public relations has changed vastly since the beginning of time. The role has changed for publicists getting into the public relations arena. I am one of many people who switched from being a History major in college to pursuing public relations full time. My question is simple: How do entry-level candidates such as myself land an entry level public relations assistant position at either a PR agency or an entertainment company such as Fox, NBC Universal, or Warner Brothers?
I have heard from many PR people, including experts that networking is the #1 way to gain more PR contacts and ultimately land a PR job. I am well on my way. I also heard that having a great online PR portfolio along with having business cards is another way. Lastly, I heard that word of mouth or knowing someone in the PR industry is an excellent way to land a job in the PR world.
Does anyone know of any other ways to land an entry-level PR job? I am open to suggestions.
As I progress in my path towards becoming a Hollywood publicist, I will find a way to break into the PR world. I am ready to become an entry level publicity assistant or a PR intern. This is the job that I want to pursue full time.
Thank you. Namaste!!
