Hollywood has vastly changed since the explosion of social media, the World Wide Web, and the rise of the media such as TMZ, JustJared.com, Ok Magazine, and PerezHilton.com to name a few. Our society now is so socially conscious about celebrity scandals and celebrity news. Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter are three great social media apps that have allowed celebrities to indirectly connect with their fans and audiences all over the world. The rise of social media along with gossip websites has been both a positive and negative influence for celebrities, and publicists. Live on Instagram has allowed A-list celebrities to instantly chat and connect with their fans on a live video feed in real time. This creates more awareness and exposure for celebrities in music, movies and television.
Publicists and the media in the 21st century have been clashing due to the highly negative press from gossip websites and news painting Hollywood celebrities in a negative light or releasing "private information" without the consent from the celebrity or their publicists. In order to decrease the confusion, publicists and the media should compromise and work together. That way, everyone wins. The gossip media can release news that both the entertainer and the publicist approve. And, in return, people in the publicity arena can give recommendations to great celebrity gossip media websites.
