Well, it is that time again!! I am enjoying a day off today. Today, we honor the US Presidents who served our country. Happy President's Day to all of you out there!! But, we must all unite together. We should preserve justice, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. America is a wonderful country. But, there are still social issues that continue to plague our country. Ethnic groups that come to America to build a better life for themselves are looked down and mistreated. Women still do not make the same pay as men in the workforce. There is racial tension as well. We must stand strong as Americans first.
America is the "land of the free and home of the brave." President's Day was officially started in 1885 as an American holiday on the third Monday each February. Its original purpose was to celebrate George Washington's birthday, which fell on February 22. The President's Day Holiday began in 1971 under the administration of Richard Nixon. It was the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to create more three day weekends for American workers. Now, all presidents are honored on this special day.
It is a day of not only celebrating American presidents, but it is a day that kids are off school and no mail is delivered by the Postal Service. All of us must be thankful for this monumental day in American history. Here is a slideshow of photos celebrating President's Day.
